The GLA:D program is a specialized exercise and education program designed to help people with osteoarthritis manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. Developed in Denmark, GLA:D focuses on evidence-based exercises and education to reduce pain, improve joint function, and increase physical activity.
GLA:D consists of two parts:
-Education sessions
-Exercise training.
The education sessions teach participants about osteoarthritis and its management, while the exercise training focuses on improving muscle strength, coordination, and mobility. GLA:D by the numbers: 6 weeks, 12 exercise sessions, 2 education classes, 3 month follow up.
Participants show an average 32% reduction in symptoms and are able to postpone joint replacement surgery by >2 years.
