Total Hip Replacement (THR)

A total hip replacement is used to replace damaged bone and cartilage in the hip with prosthetic components. This is most commonly seen in patients affected by osteoarthritis, to help reduce pain, and increase both function and quality of life.

Rehabilitation will commence the day of, or after your surgery is completed, and will aim to get you walking as soon as possible. Physiotherapy is especially important both pre and post operation, to continue building strength in the surrounding muscles around the hip, ensuring a strong, stable and pain-free hip moving forward. Some examples of initial post-op exercises are below.
